Nordhessen: Sturm Niklas und Schnee am 1. April

Kassel, 1. April 2015: Sturmtief Niklas hat auch vor Nordhessen nicht
Halt gemacht. In Bad Karlshafen wurde eine Frau schwer verletzt. In
diversen Kasseler Stadtteilen wurden Autos unter Bäumen begraben. Zum 1.
April gab es dann Schneefälle, die Verkehrsteilnehmern zu schaffen
machten.

Tote und schwere Schäden durch Sturmtief in Europa

In mehreren Ländern sind durch Sturm schwere Schäden verursacht worden.

In
Deutschland starben vier Menschen; zwei Männer wurden in
Rheinland-Pfalz von einem Baum erschlagen, ebenso eine Frau in Bayern;
dazu in Sachsen-Anhalt ein Mann von einer einstürzenden Mauer.

Es gab Stromausfälle; in weiten Teilen des Landes kam der Bahnverkehr zum Erliegen.

In
Bayern wurde am Nachmittag sogar der Fernverkehr eingestellt;
stundenlang war der Münchner Hauptbahnhof gesperrt, weil Glasscheiben

Chile: Nach schwerem Regen weitere Suche nach Überlebenden

Eine Woche nach Beginn des schweren Regens in Nordchile wird weiter nach Überlebenden gesucht.

Der Regen hat in dem normalerweise sehr trockenen Gebiet zu Hochwasser geführt;
bisher ist die Rede von über zwanzig Toten.

Fast sechzig Menschen werden aber noch vermisst.

L.A. firefighters battle blaze in Apple Valley

Firefighters are battling a brush fire in Apple Vally which lies about 140 km east of Los Angeles .

Mandatory evacuations were ordered in the area after officials warned the blaze was spreading and was not yet under control.

Around 100 buildings are said to be in the path of the fire which is being whipped up by strong winds.

Residents grew angry after rumours that the fire began as a control burn that got out of hand.
However the local fire department chief has denied this.

California on alert over surge in sea lion strandings

Since
the start of the year, thousands of baby sea lions have washed up on
beaches along the west coast of the United States. Marine animal care
centers are working around the clock to save the stranded creatures.
