German small plane crash kills two

The Cessna 172 crashed in a forest in the rural area of Schleswig-Holstein, which is 50 miles north of Hamburg.

German authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.

"We were hardly able to identify the people inside the plane," said Uetersen police spokesman Frank Lassen.

"It took a long time until the firefighters could open the wreckage with heavy equipment. And it was a picture of devastation, very tragic."

The wreckage was discovered by a local resident Fred Lindner.

"At first we tried to rescue the people on board the plane, but sadly there was no way for us to get access," he told German television.
